Centara Hotels & Resorts has its origins in a venture that was begun late in the 1970s when the Central Group purchased a 7.5-hectare site in Bangkok's Chatuchak district with the aim of creating Thailand’s first integrated shopping centre, convention centre and hotel. The project, known today as Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok and Central Plaza shopping and lifestyle centre, opened in 1983.
A few years later came the acquisition of Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin, a magnificent colonial-style resort opened in late 1922 as The Railway Hotel, a classic hotel of the Far East. A third five-star property was added to the portfolio with the opening of a resort in Samui in 1995.
Centara Hotels & Resorts now has six hotel brands.
The Centara Grand hotels and resorts are in the five-star category, with landmark properties in prime resort and beachfront locations, and key city areas. The Centara Grand appeal is a broad one, catering to the needs of independent travellers, couples and honeymooners, families, avid shoppers, conference groups, and to those with a longing for absolute relaxation. Signature offerings range from a Kids' Club with separate zones for the youngsters and the teens, the Club with its Club Lounge and dedicated concierge service, dining venues that depending on the property are located either on the rooftop or the beachfront, and a Spa Cenvaree. Butler service is provided for guests staying in premium suites, penthouses and villas. At present, Centara Grand properties are found at key locations in Thailand and the Maldives. Further openings will introduce the Centara Grand brand to Laos, Qatar, Turkey and Ethiopia.
The development of the core four-star brand, Centara, began in the late 1990s with the opening of hotels at several destinations across Thailand. Enjoying premium settings in city-centre locations and beach and island destinations, the properties are smaller in size to the Grand brand and offer leisure facilities that depend on the local market conditions. The selection of hotel styles is a very broad one, ranging from family-friendly beachfront resort to romantic beachside hideaway, adults-only resort, villa retreats, and barefoot paradise in a secluded setting. Hotels & Resorts properties are located throughout Thailand and in Vietnam, Maldives and Sri Lanka.
Centara Boutique Collection hotels are designed for independently minded travellers that appreciate uniqueness in design and an individual approach to service and hospitality. The appeal is to couples, millennials and small groups of friends. Our Boutique Collection property in Chiang Mai is also perfectly designed for small gatherings and private parties and weddings.
The last of the Centara-named brands, Centara Residences & Suites comprises longer stay options with more extensive living-in facilities including kitchen and are ideal for the leisure or business traveller requiring a fixed residence for an extended period whether alone or with family and friends.
