Hue is the ancient capital of Imperial Vietnam. It remained the national capital until 1945, when Bao Dai (the collaborator king) escaped into exile and Ho Chi Minh declared independence from France in Hanoi. As a result the city of Hue and its surroundings are covered with impressive monuments, temples and palaces. Despite suffering from its central position during the Vietnamese/American War it truly deserves its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site, as everywhere you go there are impressive buildings jumping out of the countryside - to say nothing of the imperial palace of Hue itself.

Bai Sao is located on the south-east coast, a few kilometers north of An Thoi township. Parts of this beach are still accessible only by bike, down a dirt road off the main north-south sealed road, but the vision that waits you is well worth the bumps and skids. This bay is protected from the elements and the crystal-clear water is not only sublime but also safe for kids as it is quite shallow near the shore. There are two laid-back beachside restaurants on Bai Sao with tables right on the water and the odd Phu Quoc dog for company.
