Take a stroll down Sukhumvit Road in central Bangkok and you’ll have lots to choose from, this area of town hosts plenty of expats and visitors. Many will drop into The Sportsman Bar & Restaurant on Soi 13, which houses an extensive array of screens and live sports options. Wander the six separate viewing areas at random and you’ll come across the English Premier League, Super Rugby, NBA and NFL, NCAA college basketball, AFL and NRL, international cricket, and even Australian horseracing. If the sports schedule gets too overwhelming, seat yourself down and order some comfort pub grub. Or take your aim at darts, pool or quiz night on Tuesdays. Open between 7am–2am every day, with kids welcome before 7pm.

Located in the shadow of Nana BTS Skytrain station, The Game Bangkok is one of Bangkok’s most popular sport venues. With 15 high definition screens, you can expect to watch every type of sport available. Spread over two floors, with pool tables on both, this is certainly a must visit for those sports fans wanting to catch their team in action. Serving quality pub food all day and night, The Game Bangkok stays open until 2am.

Cross over the main road and just inside off Soi 8 the Kiwi Sports Pub & Grill is where All Blacks fans gather and raise the decibels each time players cross the try line. Join them for beers and a Cornish pasty or a plate of NZ-imported lamb shank. Multiple screens carry a range of sports so you can settle into Grand Slam tennis, Test cricket or the Australian A-League. The laid-back vibe extends to all visitors and you’ll be clinking glasses and swapping sports stories in no time. Open daily 7am–1am.

Further along into Soi 23 you’ll find the Clubhouse Sports Bar & Grill. Set over two levels with an elevated street side terrace, the Clubhouse welcomes everyone with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It’s also a popular meeting spot for post-work drinks. Grab your drinks and watch the UFC fights or Formula 1 racing across the world as you celebrate the wins (or commiserate on the losses). Sometimes there’s live music to add to the atmosphere. Food portions are generous and happy hour is between 3–8pm seven days a week. Open daily 9am–1am.

For those who prefer a heavy dose of Irish hospitality with their sports, Scruffy Murphy’s is only a few doors down on Soi 23. Follow the Irish Premiership or Scottish Cup with Guinness and Kilkenny beer on tap, a huge range of whiskeys, or just ask for a pint of Magners. After tucking into some beef and Guinness stew, you’ll be forgiven for thinking you’re in Dublin. It’s a fun and cheery place – especially when the Irish folk tunes play live – with long happy hours (9:30am–8pm). Open 10am–1am every day.

Keep going down Sukhumvit and opposite Benjasiri Park on Soi 33/1 sits the Robin Hood. Warm and inviting, this traditional British pub is one of Bangkok’s favourite bars for sports. It’s decked out in wood with large HD screens showing live matches. With local pale ales and draught beers readily available, this is certainly the place to be on a weekend. The food specials are a treat and it’s an easy way to spend a lazy afternoon. Open daily 9am–12am.

Only five minutes away into Soi 33/5 you can unwind at Tenderloins Sports Bar & Steakhouse @ Bistro 33, surrounded by a leafy garden setting. Enjoy fantastic food and drinks while watching the rugby, cricket, golf or NFL. A more upscale environment, Tenderloins draws an easy-going and family-friendly crowd, particularly with Sunday brunch. They also support local sports teams and events. Open 10am–1am weekdays, 9am–1am weekends.

So, if there’s match on and you’re looking for a relaxed place to watch your favourite sport, head down to one of Bangkok’s many sports bars on Sukhumvit Road and you’ll be amidst the action. Most of these venues are happy to take sport viewing requests and can host groups in private rooms.
