Where to go rock climbing in Krabi

The province is home to numerous climbing locations, but several stand out for beginners, intermediate climbers and advanced pros throughout the region.

The Diamond Cave Wall near Railay East Beach is one of the region’s most commonly-visited climbs favoured by local rock climbing schools since it’s ideal for both beginner and intermediate climbers with 15 different routes at varying grades and levels of difficulty.

Also at East Railay Beach, you’ll find 123 Wall, which boasts hundreds of routes and some of the best views around, as well as the steep Duncan’s Boot, a popular wall with intermediate and advanced climbers. At the end of Phra Nang Beach in Railay, Escher Wall is another go-to spot that has routes suitable for all levels.

How to get started

The best way to have a safe but still thrilling climbing adventure is to opt for an organised course or trip through a rock-climbing school. Half-day climbing trips typically last for four to five hours depending on how far the climbing locations are from your starting point. These itineraries are excellent for beginners (as well as intermediate) climbers to get a taste of climbing without committing to a longer, more expensive experience.

Intermediate and more seasoned climbers tend to choose full-day (often around 7-8 hours) climbing trips that allow for more time on longer, more complicated routes. Experienced climbers often also like to choose multi-day journeys that include time spent at several climbing locations throughout the province.

Of course, private climbing excursions with trained guides are also available for those wanting a more personalised experience.
