If you’re looking for the best of Thai beach life within a day’s drive of Bangkok, Rayong’s Banpae Beach is likely to be a strong contender for your trip. Situated about 25 km outside Rayong town, Banpae is the perfect spot to indulge in some seaside relaxation, along with a delicious platter of seafood.

Over the years, the beach has become a popular jumping-off point to the island of Koh Samet. It makes sense, therefore, that the two destinations have united to establish one fantastic festival: The Ban Pae Beach and Koh Samet Festival.

Banpae Beach and Koh Samet Festival

Festival for the Senses

The festival takes place over several days in early December each year. In addition to free concerts every evening, visitors can take part in music competitions, triathlons and even general knowledge quizzes. A programme of traditional performances is organised so visitors can get a taste of traditional Thai culture, too. Beauty pageants, comedy shows and other celebrity performances are just a few of the extra highlights on the jam-packed event programme for the festival. The festival is also a must-visit event for seafood lovers, as more than 120 food stalls are set up selling the very best of the local catch.

Getting to Ban Pae Beach and Koh Samet

It’s easy to get to Ban Pae Beach via bus or songthaew, as it’s a short ride outside of Rayong town. Public ferries and speedboats to Koh Samet depart from several piers on the beach, with the most regular services leaving from Nuan Thip Pier. This is also the location where the bus from Bangkok will drop you off. The journey to Koh Samet island takes between 25 and 40 minutes.
