Situated 62km south of Colombo, the coastal town of Bentota is famous for its spectacular views, calm seas and laid-back vibes. Bentota Beach Festival

The best time to visit Bentota is from October through to April, which is perfect if you are planning to coincide your visit with the Festival, which takes place in March each year. The event takes place over two years and features a programme bursting with beats from vibrant live DJ performances. In addition to the electronic musical extravaganzas, there are more traditional performances ranging from tribal drummers to fire dancers.

The whole event offers a laid-back, beach party vibe with something fun for people of all ages to enjoy. Beach sports are a major theme, including volleyball, beach football, kite competitions and sand art contest. You can also register to take part in some of the thrilling water sports Bentota has become so popular for, including sailing, windsurfing, canoe races and jet skiing.

Getting to Bentota

Bentota is about a 90-minute car journey from Colombo. Though there is a train station, it isn’t served by many regular services from Colombo. Your best bet is to take a bus from Colombo straight to Bentota.
