Discover the Emerald Pools and Hot Springs of Krabi
The area of Krabi offers one of the most dramatic and famous landscapes in Thailand. However, it also includes three pools and hot springs that are a must visit. They include:
Emerald Pool
The emerald pool (Sa Morakot) is located within the Khao Phra-Bang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary, Tambon Khlong Thom Nuea. It's fed by hot springs in the lowland forests. The beautiful emerald green pool has temperatures between 30 and 50 degrees C, and swimming is allowed.
Blue Pool
A 600-metre walk to the blue pool from the Emerald Pool, will be rewarded by the sight of an intense, clear-blue pool. Unfortunately, swimming is prohibited because of the fluctuating temperatures of the hot springs.
Krabi Hot Springs Waterfall
Within the Khao Phra-Bang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary, there is a delightful waterfall above a hot springs pool with temperatures between 40 and 50 degrees celsius.
Transportation and Park Fees
A public bus runs once a day from Krabi Town to the Emerald Pool and back. Once you reach the carpark at the trailhead to Emerald Pool, there are two ways to reach the pool:
- A 1,400-metre nature trail along a raised wooden walkway through the jungle
- A shorter and more direct 800-metre trail.
The entrance fees to the Emerald Pool and the Blue Pool are THB 400 for foreign adults and THB 200 for children. Thai nationals pay THB 30 and 10 respectively.
The entrance fees to the Hot Springs Waterfall are THB 200 for foreign adults and THB 100 for children. Thai nationals pay THB 40 and 20 respectively.
Tips on Visiting
Unfortunately, the Hot Springs waterfall isn’t accessible by bus. A private car for the day is the best way to get to the pools and waterfall. A commercial tour is available to book that includes a visit to both sites. This takes approximately an hour or so to reach from Ao Nang Beach or Krabi Town.
The best time to visit both attractions is early in the morning, when you can avoid the crowds and enjoy cooler temperatures while hiking.
You should bring swimwear, lightweight clothing, sandals or shoes you can wear in the water, sunscreen, fresh water, and a towel.
