The 5 Best Spots to Play Basketball in Bangkok

By Centara Hotels & Resorts Posted on 18 Aug 20

Are you itching to don your favourite NBA jersey, strap on some kicks, and go knock down some long-range threes? If so, this is the blog for you. Basketball in Bangkok is alive and well, as the city is home to several excellent courts, where you can go shoot some casual hoops or join a fast-paced pickup game. Here, we’ll be sharing our picks for the five best spots to ball in the City of Angels.

Lumphini Park: Sala Daeng BTS, Lumphini MRT

The courts in Lumphini Park are two of the most popular basketball spots in Bangkok. Lumphini is located right in the centre of the city, reachable within short walking distance of both Sala Daeng BTS and Lumphini MRT stations. There are two courts in the park: one indoor and one outdoor. The outdoor area features a paved court while the indoor one has a beautiful parquet floor. Both courts are generally packed on evenings and weekends, and the games continue till late at night. The highlight of these courts is that the standard of play is usually top-notch.

Benjasiri Park: Phrom Phong BTS, Sukhumvit MRT

This is undoubtedly the stalwart when it comes to choosing an ideal spot to play basketball in Bangkok. The court is situated at the heart of the park, which is right next to the Emporium shopping centre. If you’re not a fan of mildly uneven surfaces, this might not be the place for you. But, if you play basketball for its quintessence, this court has an authentic street ball vibe and the patrons are always welcoming. If you want to find a place for yourself amidst the crowds, we would advise you to get here a little early to avoid the peak evening hours. The court closes as the park does at around 9:00 pm.

NIST International School: Asoke BTS, Sukhumvit MRT

The New International School of Thailand is a major hotspot for expat basketball lovers. Located on Sukhumvit Soi 15, this high-quality court offers an outstanding basketball experience. To play here, however, you will need to rent the court.

Rot Fai Park (Railway Park): Mo Chit BTS, Phahon Yothin MRT

The fact that this spot is somewhat isolated from the city centre doesn’t hinder its excellence or appeal. Ask any die-hard baller in Bangkok about their favourite spot to practice and you are bound to receive the same answer: Rot Fai Park. There are two excellent courts on the premises, both of which host games through all mornings and evenings, every day of the week. The courts are well-lit with floodlights, and if you’re looking to try your hand at some other sports, there are also futsal and tennis courts nearby.

Looking to join a game of basketball in Bangkok?

Although most of the above courts are generally filled with lots of steady local players, don’t be afraid to ask to join if you come alone. Most Thais are friendly by nature and would welcome anyone to the game if there’s a spot. Otherwise, your best bet is to come with five friends to increase the chances of squeezing your whole team into a game during peak hours.
