The Journey Begins
In 1983, the Central Group of companies formed Central Hotels & Resorts and opened its first 5-star property. Since renamed as “Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok”, it is now seen as one of Bangkok’s premier hotels for MICE facilities.
Railway Hotel Hua Hin
Central Hotels & Resorts acquired and renovated the Railway Hotel Hua Hin. This resort is now renamed “Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin”
Centara Hotels & Resorts becomes a publicly listed company on the Stock Exchange of Thailand
Chaweng Beach Hotel
“Centara Grand Beach Resort Samui” opened its door and became an iconic jewel resort, now rebranded as “Centara Reserve Samui”
The Birth of Centara Hotels & Resorts
In June 2007, in recognition of the need to establish a strong identity of its own, the hotel company was rebranded to Centara Hotels & Resorts.
New Flagship hotel
“Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld” enter in operation. Connected to CentraWorld shopping centre, the property is one of the most luxurious hotel in Bangkok
1st Themed resort
“Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya” also known as “The lost world” opened. It is now the #1 family hotel in Thailand.
Following the rapid growth within Thailand, Centara embarked on a journey of international expansion. Late in 2009, Centara opened its first overseas hotel, the five-star Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa Maldives which proved to be an immediate success.
Centara Hotels & Resorts became the first hotel group in Thailand to receive the Royal Warrant of Appointment
Exploring the Middle-East
Centara Muscat Hotel Oman opened in 2017 as Centara’s first hotel in the Middle-East and was closely followed by the Centara West Bay Residences & Suites Doha located moments away of the Corniche in Doha, Qatar in 2018.

Centara's portfolio currently comprises 6 brands, 13K+ rooms, 77 properties spanning 12 countries including all major Thai destinations plus the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Oman and Qatar.
The Immediate Future
Centara marks a new era of story-driven hospitality with the opening of Centara Reserve Samui and the themed family resort "Mirage" concept expanding to the Middle East & Vietnam with Centara Mirage Resort Mui Ne and Centara Mirage Beach Resort Dubai.
